MacPack for FPGA Please see https://docs.google.com/document/d/1E4LZjbRVme2nwkEKdnY4xoj3eF5La3GwFWH0Dlg3t7g/edit?usp=sharing for the latest version of this ReadMe as well as additional information. Included file ‘boot.vhd’ is a pre-configured bootable multi-OS hardfile intended for use with the MacPlus MiSTer FPGA core. Several hundred games, applications, and utilities are pre-installed on the image. Should also work with the Plus Too core for MiST FPGA, various emulators, as well as real classic Macs with the appropriate specifications and hardware. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION WITH USE OF THESE IMAGES. Care has been taken to mitigate issues whenever possible. However, no assurance whatsoever is given that they will not delete your files, corrupt themselves, carry ancient Macintosh viruses, etc. Expect crashes, instability, and possible drive failure. Use at your own risk. Instructions 0. Set MacPlus core to 4MB RAM and Save Settings (4MB is needed to boot into System 7.5.5) 1. Place contents of main .zip in /games/MACPLUS 2. Place ‘MacPlus_KBFix2_20210330.rbf’ in /_Computer/ or another core folder (e.g. /_Alternatives/), then launch it from the MiSTer OSD (3.) Mount and boot into ‘Supplement.vhd’ for supplemental older games that don’t play nice with larger volumes. (4.) Mount and boot into ‘HD20SC.vhd’ - provided for compatibility reasons. Mostly useful as something to boot from (and save to) when playing games from .dsk which are not bootable. ‘DSK.zip’ is an archive of floppy disk images for use with the MacPlus core, sorted by size. Many are bootable, but not all. Some are untested. ‘Disk605.dsk’ is a bootable copy of System 6.0.5 on a single 800K floppy. ‘boot.rom’ is the Macintosh Plus ROM. ‘MacPlus_KBFix2_20210330.rbf’ is the most recent build with a functional keyboard as of December 2021. This pack contains games, applications, and utilities ranging from roughly 1984 to 1996 and beyond which are (hopefully) compatible with the Macintosh Plus computer. There is an application called System Picker under a folder of the same name on the root of each drive - launch this application, select the System version you wish to boot into, then click Restart. This application sometimes fails - there is a replacement in the backup folder. Make a duplicate before running it. System 6.0.x is preferred for playing games on Macintosh Plus. 7 is slower and breaks compatibility with the base model due to requiring additional RAM. However, 7 has fantastic application compatibility, and can run respectably depending on configuration - try toggling the CPU clock to 16MHz for speedier Finder operations and other CPU tasks. This image has been designed for use with a mouse and keyboard. Some programs have their copy protection still intact. Google the name of the game along with the words "Macintosh Garden" and you'll usually find helpful comments or files. There is also a section in the Google document which provides some fixes when possible. Shortcut Command Cmd-F Find Cmd-Q Quit (works in many games and applications) Cmd-Opt-` Force quit (Macintosh Plus lacks Esc key) General notes - READ THE ONLINE GOOGLE DOC FIRST FOR COMPATIBILITY NOTES. - The keyboard is broken in the latest public build. Use a test build. - A flashing question mark on the diskette icon means the Mac thinks nothing is inserted (or it cannot read the file), an ‘X’ means the Mac can read it but it is not bootable, and the happy Mac means a bootable system was found. - Under System 5 and 6, use the Special > Startup… option to switch between Finder and MultiFinder modes (Special > Restart to apply). Finder is single-application mode and MultiFinder allows multiple applications to be loaded at once. Earlier games prefer or require Finder more often, but there are exceptions. - You can toggle CPU clock during core operation to speed up CPU tasks e.g. desktop rebuilding (note that many older games’ audio breaks at 16MHz) - Floppy .dsk files need to be exactly 819,200 or 409,600 bytes or the core will not read them. - The core must be set to 8MHz or the floppy drive will not be read. - Testing has been done primarily with the following core settings: 4MB RAM, 68000, 8MHz. - After Dark screensaver is installed in 7.5.5. Click or move the mouse to the bottom right corner to deactivate. Default timeout is 5 minutes.
